TROY TURKEY TROT DRAWS 7,484 TO COLLAR CITY FOR HISTORIC THANKSGIVING CELEBRATION

$20,000 Raised for Trot Charities, Regional Food Bank and Joseph’s House & Shelter

TROY, NY (Nov. 27, 2025) —Troy’s streets came alive with holiday spirit Thursday morning as more than 7,484 registered runners — the highest total in over a decade — gathered for the 78th Troy Turkey Trot, reaffirming the event’s place among the country’s largest and oldest Thanksgiving Day races.

The morning began at 8 a.m. with the Capital Region’s only Thanksgiving Day 10K, sending 1287* runners racing from Fourth and Fulton Streets to the finish at Monument Square. Maxwell Hoffman (Buffalo) captured the men’s title in 31:45, earning the $300 prize, while Amy Tortorello (Waterford, Mass.) led the women’s field in 35:14, taking the same award.

The Grade School Mile gave 588* students in 8th grade and below a chip-timed opportunity to compete, while 571* adults enjoyed the Turkey Walk, a one-mile stroll through the heart of Troy that provided a festive pre-feast activity. The popular 5K brought together 4387* participants, with Lou DiNuzzo (Saratoga Springs) and Nicole Moslander (Schenectady) winning the men’s and women’s divisions in respective times of 15:36 and 17:47.

“The Troy Turkey Trot is more than a race. It’s a celebration of everything that makes our city special,” said Mayor Carmella R. Mantello. “From the historic streets of our neighborhoods to the energy of every participant, this event reminds us why we take pride in Troy. The funds raised for the Regional Food Bank and Joseph’s House & Shelter show that the true finish line is the difference we make in our community.”

Holiday spirit filled the streets as participants donned creative Thanksgiving-themed costumes to compete for “Best Thanksgiving Day Costume” and “Most Unique Costume.” The event also welcomed more than 360 family and corporate teams, including mother/daughter, father/son, siblings, and friends/family combinations competing for fastest combined times.

Charitable giving was at the heart of the morning’s events. Through online registration, runners donated to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York and Joseph’s House & Shelter, collectively raising $20,000. The funds will help provide meals and essential support to residents facing hunger and homelessness.
