Port of Albany CEO Richard J. Hendrick, Sr. Appointed to Foundation for Seaports of the Americas Board



(October 15, 2025)  Port of Albany CEO Richard J. Hendrick, Sr. was elected to the Board of Directors for the American Association of Port Authorities’ (AAPA) Foundation for Seaports of the Americas for a two-year term. Joseph Morris, CEO and Port Director of Port Everglades (Florida) has been elected Chair of the Foundation Board and Diahann Howard, Executive Director of the Port of Benton (Washington) has been elected Vice Chair.

 

The Foundation for Seaports of the Americas was established by AAPA in 2010 as a separate 501(c)(6) with its own governance, separate from AAPA’s 501(c)(4) mission and activities. The Foundation for Seaports of the Americas promotes research and education on topics relevant to ports of the Americas and provides opportunities for charitable fundraising, including the Port Employee Emergency Relief Fund, which delivers aid to port workers and their families impacted by natural disasters and emergencies. In the past five years, the Fund has provided more than $270,000 to more than 500 employees at various ports to assist with immediate critical needs. In 2024, Hendrick celebrated his 20th year with the Port of Albany-Rensselaer (NY). During his tenure, the Port has experienced historic increases in ships, tonnage, and longshore labor hours worked as well as investments in infrastructure and Port district growth. Additionally, Hendrick serves as the Vice Chair of the Board of the American Association of Port Authorities, on the Board of Commissioners of Pilots of the State of New York, and has served in several leadership roles of the North Atlantic Ports Association. He is on the Board of the Historic Cherry Hill in Albany’s South End, on the Board of Directors of the W.F. Bruen Hose Company [Clinton Heights Fire Department] in East Greenbush, NY and recently joined the Board of Directors of the Seafarers International House NYC.

 

The Port of Albany continues to be a key regional economic driver with an annual impact of more than $428 million and approximately 1,400 local jobs (and 4,500 jobs throughout the state).
