Pioneer’s School Supply Drive: Employees load bus, make delivery to Capital City Rescue Mission in Albany

Furthering the Pioneer Charitable Foundation’s mission of “Helping Kids be Kids,” Pioneer employees will be packing and delivering school supplies to benefit Capital Region students in need on Tuesday, August 15 at 2 p.m. at Pioneer’s headquarters, 652 Albany Shaker Road in Colonie.

Over the past month, as part of its annual School Supply Drive, Pioneer has been collecting essential items for elementary, middle and high school students throughout its 22 local branches. During Tuesday’s concluding event, more than 1,000 pens, pencils, crayons, glue sticks, paper, notebooks, rulers and other items will be placed into backpacks, and then loaded onto a bus donated by Matthews Buses Inc. of Ballston Spa.

Once the bus is filled, it will be driven to the Capital City Rescue Mission at 259 South Pearl Street in Albany, where the school supplies will be delivered. The mission will distribute the items to students during its upcoming Backpack Giveaway Party.

The Pioneer Charitable Foundation has provided more than $1.2 million in financial support to nearly 400 Capital Region nonprofits since its launch in 2018. In addition, Pioneer employees have contributed well over 10,000 hours in local volunteer service.

The event will provide excellent photo/video and interview opportunities in a highly visual setting. Reporters, photographers and videographers are welcome to attend.
