The Arts Center of the Capital Region presents An Atlas, solo exhibition by Tara Fracalossi

Fracalossi’s contemporary photographs will be on view from March 16, 2023 through April 22, 2023.

Fracalossi’s work explores the nature and meaning of images, archives, and language through photographic installations, videos, and multi-image pieces. The ongoing work, Postcards to Myself, is a byproduct of the pandemic’s early isolation when Fracaloss turned to her iPhone to document her daily small world goings-on while utilizing online consumer printing services and the US Postal Service. Now in its second year, Postcards to Myself further explores the nature of image making while questioning ideas of what photographic ‘quality’ truly means.

The works in this exhibition include both the postcards as well as a new series of ‘super enlargements’ of the original post cards that utilize consumer printing services and accept the degradation of the image. Fracalossi’s images investigate the photographic process, language, and the construction of personal histories.

Tara Fracalossi’s photographic work has been exhibited widely including solo and group exhibits in New York City, Philadelphia, Houston, London, Vienna, Slovakia, and Belgium as well as Woodstock, New Paltz, Kingston, Hudson, and Albany.  She has received two Photographer’s Fund Fellowships from the Center for Photography at Woodstock, a Fulbright-Hays grant from the US Department of State, several grants from the New York Foundation for the Arts, and the Mona Ruth Brickman Memorial Artist of the Year Award from Albany Center Gallery, Albany, NY.

Born in Jersey City, NJ, Fracalossi holds an MFA from the University at Albany, SUNY and a BA from the University of Vermont. She has curated and organized exhibitions in galleries and museums for more than twenty-five years and is the founding director of the Teaching Gallery at Hudson Valley Community College, SUNY where she is an Associate Professor. She lives and works in a converted tractor barn in Kinderhook, NY with her husband, artist Thomas Lail, their son and dog.
