Questar III BOCES and Hudson Valley Community College
Announce 5 New Pathways at STEM High School
The Questar III BOCES and Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) STEM High School is pleased to announce that it will offer five new pathways to its programming, including Advanced Manufacturing Technology, Biotechnology, Digital Media, Electrical Engineering – Technology: Electronics, and Engineering Sciences. In addition to the five new pathways, students may pursue original pathways in Computer Information Sciences: Web Design and Programming, Environmental Science: Clean Energy Management, and Health Sciences.
The STEM High School is a rigorous, comprehensive high school program located in the Lang Building on the HVCC College Campus in Troy. The program combines the best aspects of high school and college learning and partnerships with local businesses aligned with students’ career pathways. Students can earn an Associate of Applied Science degree (P-TECH) and at least 24 college credits at no cost to families.
"We are thrilled to offer new pathways for Questar III and HVCC STEM High School students," said Questar III BOCES District Superintendent Dr. Gladys Cruz. "These pathways offer opportunities for even more students to jumpstart their college careers, and we are excited for the opportunity to invest in the future of our students and community."
“Hudson Valley Community College is pleased to continue to collaborate with Questar III BOCES to offer new pathways and programming at the Questar III and HVCC STEM High School,” said Hudson Valley Community College’s Officer in Charge Louis Coplin. “The college continues to expand our programming and facilities to address the workforce shortages facing our region and create more opportunities for our students, and these pathways will provide a stronger pipeline to train graduates for in-demand, well-paid careers.”
The Questar III BOCES and HVCC STEM High School opened in September 2021. It was the first New York State Pathways in Technology (P-TECH) and Smart Scholar Early College High School to be hosted on a community college campus in the Capital Region. Since its launch, the program has offered students a head start toward earning their college degree or pathway certificate in a STEM-related field through workplace learning, worksite visits, speakers, and internships.
