Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and Pride Center of the Capital Region Host Pride Paw-rade

On Sunday, April 30, from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., the Pride Center of the Capital Region and Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (MHHS) will host the second Pride Paw-rade, a celebration for families and their pups. The event, which features a pet parade and costume contest, food trucks, music, vendors, a microchipping clinic and activities for kids, will take place at MHHS, located at 3 Oakland Avenue in Menands. (For GPS use 193 Broadway, Menands.)

The event was first imagined by the Pride Center in 2022. According to Pride Center Executive Director Nathaniel Gray.

“There's an important reason LGBTQ+ folks are more likely to adopt animals: we are at higher risk for isolation and depression. Many people understand the joy and value of an animal that supports us emotionally, even if just to get us out of the house each morning for a walk. This critical companionship, as well as a focus on fun and family, felt like an excellent reason to connect with MHHS. I love my little lady Aurora, an 8-year-old rescue from MHHS, that I was honored to adopt last year. We hope folks will come and share that same joy with others and have a colorful, fun time doing it,” said Gray.

“No one should be judged or treated differently for being who they are. We strive to make MHHS a place where everyone feels welcome,” said MHHS CEO Ashley Jeffrey Bouck. “We embrace the diversity of our community and are proud to partner with the Pride Center to provide a safe and inclusive environment to celebrate our animal companions.”

All are invited to attend this free community event. Only those participating in the parade and contest need to register in advance. Registration is $25 per pet with proceeds benefiting both organizations. All dogs that are friendly with people and other dogs are welcome. They must be current on vaccinations. A microchipping clinic for dogs will take place from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., with a fee of $20 per chip. Details & registration at https://www.518capitalpride.com/pridepaw-rade2023. The rain date is Sunday, May 7.
