WMHT Public Media Commemorates 200 Years of Frederic Church with Original Documentary

Troy, NY – The Capital Region and Hudson Valley’s PBS station WMHT Public Media is set to premiere the original, locally-produced documentary Language in Landscape: The Art of Frederic Church at a free premiere screening event on Thursday, June 4th at 6:30pm at Hudson Hall in Hudson, NY. A broadcast premiere on WMHT follows the next day on June 5th at 10:30pm on-air, online, and on the free PBS App.

Language in Landscape: The Art of Frederic Church explores the works and legacy of artist Frederic Church on the 200th anniversary of his birth. Through rare archival materials and exclusive interviews with leading experts, discover Church’s most iconic paintings, and see how his legacy continues to shape our current understanding of art, nature, and landscape. Explore Olana, Church’s greatest masterwork and a living work of art where ongoing efforts are restoring Church’s original intent and design.

President & CEO Anthony V Hayes shared, “WMHT Public Media is thrilled to celebrate the life and legacy of Frederic Church through our latest original documentary, Language in Landscape: The Art of Frederic Church. We hope this program will not only educate and inform viewers of the meaning behind Church’s most impactful works of art, but also inspire people to experience the dramatic landscapes Church envisioned and designed throughout the grounds of Olana State Historic Site.

Support for Language in Landscape: The Art of Frederic Church has been provided through a Market New York grant awarded by Empire State Development and I LOVE NY, New York State’s Division of Tourism.

WMHT’s free premiere screening at Hudson Hall is one of many celebratory events organized by The Olana Partnership for Frederic Church 200, a year-long celebration of his lasting impact.
