The New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) is actively preparing to launch an upgraded unemployment insurance system called Unemployment Services
The New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) is actively preparing to launch an upgraded unemployment insurance system called Unemployment Services. This will require an upgrade period beginning Monday, November 2, 2026, at 5 PM. The upgrade will take about 9-12 days. During the upgrade, unemployment services and benefit payments will be delayed. Once the upgraded system is up and running, customers must file or certify for benefits in the upgraded system to receive all entitled payments withheld during the transition period.
This upgraded Unemployment Services system will deliver a user-friendly way for individuals and businesses to navigate through the unemployment insurance process and get the services and benefits they need.
The upgraded system’s many improvements, such as self-service options and real-time status updates, will both reduce common reasons claims are delayed and will eventually reduce calls to the Department and to your office.
As we prepare for the upgrade, please note the following details.
Dates to Remember:
- November 2: All unemployment insurance services — including claim filing, benefit certification, and phone assistance — will not be available beginning at 5 PM. This is also the deadline to file or certify for benefits for the week ending 11/01/2026. During the upgrade, unemployment payments will be delayed.
- Once the new system is available, current customers will be required to use the upgraded system to retroactively certify to receive benefit payments. New customers can begin to file and certify for benefits using the upgraded unemployment insurance system.
