Mosaic Associates Architects Expands Educational Design Team

Troy, N.Y. (March 10, 2025) — Mosaic Associates Architects, a Troy-based firm specializing in educational planning and design, has welcomed Jay Zhang and Mahum Ahmad as architectural designers.

Zhang, who earned his architecture degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, assists in all design stages at Mosaic while developing his leadership abilities. He began with an ADA-compliant exterior door replacement project at SUNY Oneonta and is involved in several key assignments, including the demolition of SUNY Potsdam’s Dunn Hall, an Esports facility at Hudson Valley Community College, various Skidmore College projects, and a State University Construction Fund study space.

Outside of his project work, Zhang is actively involved in the “Rising Leadership” program through the Rensselaer County Chamber and contributes to the firm’s CANstruction team, which creates sculptures out of food cans to promote hunger awareness.

Ahmad, an accomplished architectural and urban designer, is working on several projects within the Troy City School District. She currently plays a pivotal role in improving the infrastructure at Carroll Hill Elementary School, Troy Middle School, PS 14, PS 2, PS 12, and Troy High School, lending her design acumen and drawing proficiency to her team.

Before joining Mosaic, Ahmad worked as a research associate at LABLAB in Stockholm, Sweden, and served as an architect at Arkitektbruket and ME Architects in both Sweden and Pakistan.

Ahmad holds an undergraduate degree in urban design and planning from KTH Royal Institute in Stockholm, where she received a scholarship from the Karl Engvers Foundation. She also earned a degree in architecture from the Indus Valley School of Arts and Architecture in Karachi, Pakistan.
