Fit in the City Returns to Glens Falls

Highmark Blue Shield, the YMCA, and the City of Glens Falls are excited to announce the return of Fit in the City, the popular free summer fitness series, to Crandall Park in Glens Falls. The program, now in its sixth season, will be offered Mondays through August 26 from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m., offering the community a chance to get healthy and enjoy the outdoors with a series of free yoga classes.

“As a community-based health insurer, Highmark believes that everyone deserves access to healthy activities, and this program provides an opportunity for residents of all ages and abilities to enjoy the benefits of exercise in a fun and welcoming environment,” said Nicky Chlopecki, manager, community affairs for Highmark Blue Shield. “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the YMCA and the City of Glens Falls to bring Fit in the City back for another summer of fitness and community connection.”

Kim Fitzpatrick, a 200-hour certified yoga instructor with over a decade of experience, will guide participants through a variety of yoga styles, including Chair, Yin, Gentle, Hatha, and Vinyasa Flow. She strongly believes that the best form of exercise is the one that you enjoy and will practice consistently. Her mission is to provide a welcoming, judgment-free environment for people to explore and develop a personal yoga practice that is right for their body.

“We are so excited to be participating in this wonderful collaboration with Highmark Blue Shield and the City of Glens Falls again this year,” said Lauren Cygan, executive director of The Family YMCA of the Glens Falls Area. “As a local nonprofit with a mission to strengthen community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, we are honored and privileged to work in this meaningful partnership to provide a weekly accessible group fitness opportunity that builds mind, body, and spirit, right here in Crandall Park throughout the summer season.”

In the event of rain, class will be held at the Glens Falls YMCA in Studio 1. All are welcome, and these classes are open to the public.

“The free ‘Fit in the City’ summer exercise program in Crandall Park is an excellent example of what can happen when partners like Highmark, the YMCA, and the City of Glens Falls come together in service of the community,” said Glens Falls Mayor Collins. “And what better place to be on a Summer Monday evening than Crandall Park.”

Community members are encouraged to check Highmark Blue Shield’s social media channels for schedule updates and more opportunities to get healthy this summer.
