College Marks ATEC Milestone with Topping-Off Ceremony

Hudson Valley Community College held a topping-off ceremony for its new Applied Technology Education Center (ATEC) to celebrate the placement of the building's final structural beam and the partnerships that made the project possible. Industry stakeholders, donors, faculty and elected officials signed the beam as the college showcased progress on the project.

The 125,000-square-foot, $64 million facility is the largest capital project in the college’s history. It is set to open in 2027 to prepare students for in-demand careers in applied technology and skilled trades fields, including building systems, automotive and transportation technologies, renewable energy, and semiconductor manufacturing. ATEC will include specialized labs and classrooms with the latest tools, equipment, and technology to meet modern industry needs.

Many applied technology and skilled trades industries are experiencing a severe shortage of qualified workers. With the construction of the Applied Technology Education Center (ATEC), Hudson Valley Community College will continue to bolster a strong workforce pipeline to benefit both students and the companies who seek to hire them through innovative degree and certificate offerings as well as short-term skills-based training programs.

“This topping-off ceremony marks an exciting milestone for the college and everyone who has helped bring this vision to life,” said Hudson Valley Community College President Michael Brophy. “We are immensely grateful to our elected officials, donors and partners who have supported us along the way, and today’s event was a wonderful opportunity to share our progress on the facility. We look forward to welcoming the first class into ATEC in 2027 and seeing the lasting impact this investment will have on our students, community, and workforce.”
