City of Rensselaer Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) Local Planning Committee (LPC) Announces Third Committee Meeting for Thursday, September 17th at Rensselaer City Hall
Rensselaer, NY, September 3, 2026 – The Rensselaer Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) planning process is ongoing. The Rensselaer DRI Local Planning Committee (LPC) is pleased to announce the third LPC meeting will be held on Thursday, September 17th, 2026, from 2:00pm–4:00pm at Rensselaer City Hall (62 Washington St, Rensselaer, NY 12144).
In early 2026, the City of Rensselaer was awarded the Capital Region’s $10 million grant from the New York State DRI program to develop a Strategic Investment Plan (SIP) with a recommended slate of key catalytic projects that advance the community’s vision for a connected, thriving, and vibrant downtown. Preliminary revitalization projects received for the Downtown within the DRI boundary, which includes the central portions of Broadway, Columbia St. Elm St will be presented at the September 17th LPC meeting. The City of Rensselaer Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) is an 8-month planning process completing in January 2027 that will result in the Strategic Investment Plan and funds to advance transformative projects that will revitalize the city’s downtown and support a vibrant local economy.
As part of the DRI planning process, the Local Planning Committee launched an Open Call for Projects, providing public, nonprofit, and private project sponsors with an opportunity to submit project proposals for DRI funding consideration. The Open Call concluded on September 4th, 2026. Project sponsors were asked to submit a Project Application Form outlining their proposed project, including information about the scope, anticipated costs, funding, and potential impact on downtown Rensselaer.
Following the conclusion of the Open Call, the consultant team is working directly with potential project sponsors to review submitted information, address questions, and further develop project proposals. This project development process will provide the LPC with the information needed to evaluate the proposals and determine which projects have the greatest potential to advance Rensselaer’s vision and goals for downtown revitalization. The DRI planning process calls for projects to be developed and evaluated iteratively as the LPC works toward a final slate of recommended projects.
The Rensselaer community is strongly encouraged to attend the third LPC meeting and take advantage of this opportunity to learn about updates on the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) planning and engagement process and recent project submissions. The Rensselaer DRI Team will facilitate:
You will hear about the draft projects submitted through the Open Call for Projects and have the chance to provide input to the City on the DRI. Topics will include:
· A summary of the DRI Planning process and public engagement to date
· An overview of each project submitted through the Rensselaer DRI Open Call for Projects
· LPC forum discussion of project development and DRI evaluation criteria.
· Review and application of local project evaluation criteria
· Finalize the Rensselaer DRI Vision, and discuss goals, revitalization strategies, and the future roadmap for downtown
· Public comment/input
The meeting is open to the public, and there will be an opportunity for public comment at the end of the meeting. Public input will help shape the Strategic Investment Plan and guide the future revitalization of the downtown area.
