Discover East Greenbush

With various technology and business parks, beautiful suburban and rural neighborhoods and a picturesque view of the Albany skyline, East Greenbush is poised for future growth and expansion.

Located in southern Rensselaer County, the Town of East Greenbush is one of the fastest growing towns in the Capital Region of New York. Originally settled in the 1630s, East Greenbush spans 24.4 square miles just east of the Hudson River, with its southwestern border running along the riverfront.

Approximately 16,500 residents call East Greenbush home. With its close proximity to the intersection of Interstate 90 and Interstate 87, and the short, five-mile commute to Albany, East Greenbush offers an ease-of-access to the state capital.

Rensselaer County Plaza (Walmart Plaza)

Rensselaer County Plaza is conveniently located in the heart of Rensselaer County in the center of the shopping community. Situated on Route 4 in East Greenbush, Rensselaer County Plaza is easily accessible from the major roadways, business districts, and residential neighborhoods. The strategic tenant makeup of the Plaza includes a quality mix of national retailers, restaurants, and merchants.

At this central location in Rensselaer County there is over 295,932 square feet of retail space including a 205,000 square foot Walmart Supercenter, a 125,000 square foot Home Depot and a 12 screen Regal Cinemas. Other tenants include Panera Bread, Bruegger’s Bagel Bakery, Key Bank, Hallmark Gold Crown, RadioShack, Northeast Health Imaging Center, Family Medical Group, UPS, PetSmart and other quality retailers.

University at Albany East Campus

In February 1996, the University at Albany Foundation purchased the former Sterling Winthrop pharmaceutical complex located at 81 Columbia Turnpike in East Greenbush. Since that purchase, the Foundation has worked with the University at Albany to develop the 95-acre site using a collaborative model for a biotech campus that provides leased office space and high-tech laboratories with universal access to common spaces and services, including laboratory support, state-of-the-art conference and meeting facilities, and on-premises recreational and dining opportunities.

The East Campus is intended to create an environment in which life science technologies can be developed into commercially viable businesses, and also to foster the education and clustering of a workforce with the skills necessary to sustain such enterprises. The University at Albany conducts activities on the East Campus, such as the School of Public Health, the Cancer Research Center and the Student Loan Service Center, which are complemented by the operations of a variety of tenants that collectively represent a range of health-related efforts through the spectrum of education, investigation, research, development and production design.

In addition to a main laboratory complex, the East Campus also is composed of the Edward S. and Frances Gildea George Education Center, the Cancer Research Center and smaller buildings dedicated to tenant specific operations, the Senator Joseph L. Bruno Biotechnology Development Center (AMRI) and the IBS Building (Taconic). To find out more about space availability, contact the East Campus Operations Manager at 518.525.2779.
