University at Albany East Campus
In February 1996, the University at Albany Foundation purchased the former Sterling Winthrop pharmaceutical complex located at 81 Columbia Turnpike in East Greenbush. Since that purchase, the Foundation has worked with the University at Albany to develop the 95-acre site using a collaborative model for a biotech campus that provides leased office space and high-tech laboratories with universal access to common spaces and services, including laboratory support, state-of-the-art conference and meeting facilities, and on-premises recreational and dining opportunities.
The East Campus is intended to create an environment in which life science technologies can be developed into commercially viable businesses, and also to foster the education and clustering of a workforce with the skills necessary to sustain such enterprises. The University at Albany conducts activities on the East Campus, such as the School of Public Health, the Cancer Research Center and the Student Loan Service Center, which are complemented by the operations of a variety of tenants that collectively represent a range of health-related efforts through the spectrum of education, investigation, research, development and production design.
In addition to a main laboratory complex, the East Campus also is composed of the Edward S. and Frances Gildea George Education Center, the Cancer Research Center and smaller buildings dedicated to tenant specific operations, the Senator Joseph L. Bruno Biotechnology Development Center (AMRI) and the IBS Building (Taconic). To find out more about space availability, contact the East Campus Operations Manager at 518.525.2779.
