William F. Fagan Named Vice Chair of Hudson Valley Community College Board of Trustees

June 16, 2026

Longtime Hudson Valley Community College trustee William F. Fagan was recently appointed as vice chair of the college’s Board of Trustees. A 1973 graduate of Hudson Valley, Fagan has been a member of the board since 2009, when he was appointed by former Governor David Paterson.

In addition to his service as a college trustee, Fagan served as a member of the college’s Foundation Board of Directors from 1994 to 2015, including as vice president and president from 1997 to 2007. In recognition of his longstanding commitment and leadership, he was named Foundation Board director emeritus in January 2018. He also has been a member of the college’s Faculty Student Association Board of Directors since 2010.

After graduating from Hudson Valley, Fagan went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from St. Bonaventure University. He is the president of Wm. J. Fagan and Sons, Inc., a family business founded by his grandfather more than a century ago in Troy. His enduring connection to the college and local community reflects his deep commitment to education, leadership and civic service.

“Hudson Valley Community College’s Board of Trustees is proud to announce Bill Fagan’s appointment as vice chair of the board,” said Hudson Valley Community College’s Board of Trustees Chairperson Neil Kelleher. “I’ve known Bill for more than 40 years and consider myself fortunate to be able to call him my friend. His strengths, skills and contributions to the college over his years of service are a valuable asset to the board and our students, and I look forward to continuing to work together in his new role as vice chair.”

The college’s 10-member Board of Trustees is appointed by the governor, who names four members, and the Rensselaer County Legislature, which names five members to serve seven-year terms. One member is elected by the student body for a one-year term.
