Literacy Volunteers and CEO Present: Health Literacy Classes
We are offering a comprehensive five session health literacy program for adults every Tuesday for the month of June. The classes are aimed at intermediate level speakers who are able to understand, read and write basic English.
Topics:
Health care - Learn about health insurance and coverage, make a medical appointment, request an interpreter
Doctors - Identify body parts, describe basic symptoms to the doctor, fill out a simple health history form
Medicine - Learn the difference between over-the-counter medicine and prescription medicine, find and understand information on a medicine label including when and how to take medicine
Healthy Eating - Put together a healthy meal, understand the importance of a balanced diet
Reproductive Health - A women’s only class where women learn how their bodies work, how to stay healthy, and how to take care of their reproductive system
