HMA Contracting Corp, a leading asphalt paving and excavation contractor serving the Capital District, is seeking experienced and dependable Paving Prep Crew Laborers. This position focuses on site preparation activities that are critical to successful asphalt paving operations.

Job Summary

The Paving Prep Crew Laborer supports site preparation work ahead of asphalt paving operations. This role ensures surfaces are properly prepared, grades are set, and job sites are ready so paving crews can work efficiently, safely, and to specification.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare existing surfaces for asphalt paving • Clean, broom, shovel, and rake work areas to remove debris and loose material • Fine grade and adjust surfaces to specified elevations and slopes • Set and maintain grades using stringline, lasers, or grade stakes • Assist with base repairs and surface preparation prior to paving • Assist with tack coat preparation and application • Direct truck and equipment traffic during prep operations • Load, unload, and maintain tools and preparation equipment • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite at all times • Follow all HMA safety policies and OSHA requirements • Communicate closely with foremen to ensure paving crews are properly set up

Minimum Qualifications

• OSHA 10 Construction certification (required) • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record • Ability to perform physically demanding work in all weather conditions • Ability to work early mornings, extended hours, and weekends as needed • Strong awareness of jobsite safety and traffic control

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in asphalt paving preparation or site work • Familiarity with grades, slopes, and drainage requirements • Experience working around pavers, rollers, skid steers, and trucks • CDL license or willingness to obtain one • OSHA 30 certification

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift 50+ pounds repeatedly • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work on uneven surfaces for extended periods • Ability to work in active equipment and traffic environments

Starting Salary: $25-$35 an hour based on experience
