Position Summary:

As a member of Vanderheyden's clinical team, this Medical Assistant may administer medications to the individuals served at Vanderheyden's Education and OCFS Programs in accordance with the Medication Administration Certification Protocols and under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).

Primary Duties & Essential Functions:

Assist the School Nurse in creating and maintaining Medication Administration Records (MARS)/for each individual enrolled in Vanderheyden's Education and OCFS Programs.
Ensure and maintain an adequate supply of mediation for the individuals' use in school.
Review the Medication Administration Reports to ensure they accurately reflect the medication prescription(s)/physician's order(s) and that the documentation of the administration of medication is completed correctly.
Administer medications to individuals at the appropriate times as ordered by their providers and as overseen by the Registered Professional Nurse (RN).
Provide ongoing health care information to supervising RNs/Nurse On-Call before leaving shift as dictated by individual needs.
Develop and/or participate in ongoing staff development for employees as directed.
Ensure knowledge of all medications administered and their intended side effects and adverse effects.
In case of an emergency, if needed, you may be required to assist with the triage of an individual's acute needs.
Accurately maintain individuals' Medication Administration Records.
Maintain contact with other Health Services staff regarding the individual's medication and treatment concerns.
Assist the office manager with scheduling appointments.
Triage individuals for nursing needs within the school.
Assist the Registered Nurse with the organization of lab work and work with the phlebotomist to help maintain order and keep the process organized.
Maintain confidentiality in accordance with agency policy and HIPAA regulations.
Participate in required agency orientation and education development.

Required Education, Knowledge, and Skills:

Promotes and supports cultural diversity and competence.
Will be a graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant college degree program. 
Will have documentation of all favorable references that may be checked, as appropriate.

Abilities and Working Conditions:

Must be available to work a minimum 40-hour work week.
Must have a valid driver's license.
Willingness to respond to the needs of a culturally diverse population.
