The Albany Symphony seeks strong candidates for the part‐time (25-30 hours/week) position of Development Communications Manager. The Development Communications Manager serves as an integral part of the organization's fundraising and administrative team by telling the story of the Albany Symphony and sharing the business case for the arts within the community and region. This position will work directly with the Director of Development and Team, Executive Director, Senior Patron Services Manager, and Programs Manager. The position entails grant writing, copywriting and editing, some graphic design and coordination with graphic designers, and building a cohesive voice for the organization. The ideal candidate is a superb writer, using both data and storytelling, motivated self-starter, and team player with the ability to multitask within a fast‐paced work environment. The position requires occasional evening and weekend hours including working Albany Symphony performances and events. The Development Communications Manager reports to the Director of Development.

 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

 

Fundraising and Grants:

  • Manage the Grants program of the Albany Symphony including timeline management, content coordination, and grants reporting and follow-up.
  • Research new grant opportunities from both private and government granting entities.
  • Prepare content for corporate, government, and foundation proposals that inspire entities to invest in the mission and goals of the Albany Symphony.
  • Assist frontline fundraisers in preparing materials for meetings throughout the donor lifecycle, including solicitations and stewardship.
  • Other duties as assigned, including concert and event support.

 

Communications

  • Provide content and copy-editing for the Albany Symphony website to share a consistent story across all mediums.
  • Manage the creation and content of the Annual Report.
  • Design or work with a contracted graphic designer to prepare development and organization-related event flyers, invitations, etc.
  • Coordinate and prepare content for the weekly Spotlight email to 12,000+ concertgoers.
  • Coordinate with the development team to prepare content for the program books throughout the season.
  • Other duties as assigned including Customer Service and occasional ticketing support.

 

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Previous grant-writing, reporting and/or design experience required.
  • Experience in and knowledge of the performing arts are a plus.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Compensation & Benefits:

Competitive hourly compensation for 25-30 hours/per week at a rate of $19-$26/hour commensurate with experience. Complimentary concert tickets, CDTA public transportation pass, access to professional development resources through Capital Region chambers of commerce and League of American Orchestras. PTO package, and twelve (12) paid holidays. Hybrid or remote work is possible depending on location and experience.
