  • 2010 Van Rensselaer Award Winners

    The Chamber announces the 2010 recipients of its prestigious Van Rensselaer Awards, to be presented at the Van Rensselaer Dinner on Thursday, September 23 at the Hilton Garden Inn on Hoosick Street in Troy. The honors include the Van Rensselaer Corporate and Small Business Awards and the Edward H. Pattison Citizenship Award.

    “The Chamber’s annual awards give us the opportunity to publicly distinguish people who are making a difference by their initiatives and by their example,” said Anthony Lanzillo, 2010 Chair of the Chamber’s Board of Directors. “This year’s recipients exemplify the meaning and purpose of these awards in extraordinary ways that benefit the entire community.”

        With a two-decade career in the nuclear industry in diverse management positions, Dr. LeClair continues as a project collaborator and is an ongoing consultant with the International Atomic Energy agency in Vienna, Austria. Dr. LeClair earned her Doctorate from Syracuse University and holds an MBA, a Master's in both Organizational Psychology and Education, and Bachelor's degrees in Nuclear Technology and Psychology. She also holds leadership positions in several professional organizations.

        "Managing and Supervising Staff" will be held on Wednesday, September 8 at the Holiday Inn Express, Route 4 in East Greenbush. The second workshop, "The Art of Motivating and Mentoring" is set for Thursday, October 28 at The Century House, Route 9 in Latham.

        Registration and breakfast for each workshop begins at 7:30 a.m., with the program following from 8 to 10 a.m. Reservations per workshop are $25 for members and $40 for non-members and walk-ins. Save money by purchasing both workshops for just $45 for members.

    Ryan Silva, the Chamber’s Director of Business Development, has received the distinguished Lifetime Sales Achievement Award from the American Chamber of Commerce Executives’ (ACCE) Membership Development Division. The “Million Dollar Circle” award recognizes individual achievement in membership dollars sold throughout his Chamber career. Recipients are members of ACCE’s Circle of Champions program, designed to connect Chamber sales professionals and encourage excellence in sales performance. The award was presented during ACCE’s annual convention held this year in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

    Thousands of brochures handed out each year - why not yours?

    The New York State Travel & Vacation Association is taking the lead role in managing a literature distribution booth at the Great New York State Fair, August 26 - September 6, 2010. Previously, NYSTVA has played a supporting role with the NYS Division of Tourism (I Love New York) as leader, but the current state budget situation has caused the operation to be reversed this year. 

    We welcome participation by bona fide tourism related entities that may or may not be NYSTVA members. Non-member entities may participate in the distribution at the New York State Fair for a fee that includes membership in NYSTVA for the balance of the 2010 year.     Response due date is August 11, 2010.

This year’s dynamic and diverse group will participate in our award winning skills-based professional development program, which begins in September. The program emphasizes a “learning from leaders” approach to developing the talent of future leaders in New York’s Tech Valley. More than 125 Leadership alumni have graduated during the past five years, and are now applying their valuable skills within their professions and within their communities.
