First New York Federal Credit Union Prepares for 2020 Toilet Paper Donation to Catholic Charities Tri-County Services



First New York Federal Credit Union lives by the philosophy of “People Helping People” and is committed to serving our members and our community.  Since 2016 First New York has partnered with Catholic Charities Tri-County Services in collecting toilet paper to be distributed throughout the community to people in need.  In wanting to give back we learned that Capital Region residents who receive Food Stamps (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programs) are not permitted to purchase personal hygiene products; no deodorant, no soap, no shampoo, no laundry detergent, no razors and not even toile

Tech Valley High School Operating Board appoints new chief academic officer/principal



The Tech Valley High School (TVHS) Operating Board voted to appoint the school’s next chief academic officer/principal at a special board meeting Tuesday night. Dr. Amy W. Hawrylchak, who has served as the assistant principal of Guilderland High School since 2015, will become the school’s next leader, effective January 4, 2021.

Capital Region BOCES and Questar III BOCES, which jointly operate the school, conducted a search for a new chief academic officer and principal after former principal Dr. James Niedemeier became the superintendent of Duanesburg Central School District.

Cornell Cooperative Extension Hosting 'Back to Home Basics' Virtual Series

Integra HR and the Defreestville Fire Department are partnering again with the Rensselaer County Chamber of Commerce, Snelling Staffing Services and Capital Region Cares to give to those in need. We are grateful to the community for helping us to collect hygiene products, hoodies, socks, and underwear for children and families in need. The donations collected will be given to the following agencies and school district program: the Commission on Economic Opportunity (CEO), Vanderheyden, Unity House, SCAP, and the Troy City School District’s School 12’s Alternative Learning Program.

Whitney Young Health Names New Chief Medical Officer



Whitney Young Health has announced the appointment of Dr. Deborah Vasquez as Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Vasquez joined the Whitney Young Health team in 2013 as a Pediatric Attending Physician. She most recently served as the Associate Director of Pediatrics before assuming the role as the Interim Chief Medical Officer.

Russell Sage College President’s Contract Extended Through 2024



The Russell Sage College Board of Trustees has unanimously voted to extend the contract of President Christopher Ames through 2024. Ames became Sage’s 10th president in 2017.

Under Christopher Ames’ leadership, Sage has improved its financial position, going from a deficit of $5.5 million to two consecutive years of surpluses in excess of $2 million.
