Unity House Receives Donation from MVP Health Care to Support Healthy Choices Food Pantry
Troy, N.Y. – MVP Health Care has donated $5,000 to Unity House for use towards its Healthy Choices: A Medically Tailored Food Pantry.
Healthy Choices is a dedicated food pantry for guests whose doctors have prescribed groceries that are lower in sodium or sugar and high in fiber; it also offers fresh vegetables and fruit. The food pantry has been a part of Unity House since its beginning in 1971 and has evolved and grown with Unity House over the years. The consumer choice model the pantry uses began around 2011, the COVID- related delivery service to medically compromised individuals began in early spring 2020, and the medical tailored pantry/Food As Medicine referred delivery program began in July 2020.
From Jan. 1, 2021, to November 12 this year, Unity House has served 80 households with a total of 198 members using the healthy and medically tailored pantry. These households are referred to Unity House by The Food Pantries for the Capital District as part of the Food as Medicine program.
