Rensselaer County Summer Youth Employment Program

The Rensselaer County Department of Employment & Training will be administering the Summer Youth Employment Program this year. We are soliciting Rensselaer County businesses and agencies that might be interested in serving as a worksite for 14-20 year-old income-eligible youth. All worksites must provide a safe, learning-rich, supervised environment and be able to accommodate these youth employees for 5 weeks.

This year the Program is set to tentatively start the week of July 10th. Youth will be paid an hourly wage of $9.70 for between 20-25 hours per week. The wages along with fringes will be paid through the Rensselaer County Department of Employment & Training. All youth are employees of Rensselaer County and are covered under the County’s insurance and liability. Please keep in mind, that for many of these younger youth, it is their first experience into the world of work. As in the past, the Department will be providing counseling staff for the participants to assist with job readiness skills, but mentoring from your staff at the worksite is essential to make this program a success.

If your organization is interested in serving as a worksite, please complete the enclosed Worksite Application and return a copy to the Employment & Training Department by June 9, 2017. Submission of application does not guarantee approval, but every effort will be made to accommodate requests.

Please feel free to contact Brian J. Williams, Director of Youth Programs at 270-2860 or [email protected] if you have any questions.
