Rensselaer County Coats for Kids Tournament Most Successful to Date, with County Prepared to Distribute Largest Number of Coats This Year, McLaughlin Announces

The annual Rensselaer County Coats for Kids golf tournament was the most successful to date, and the county will be able to provide the largest number of coats since the effort was launched, County Executive Steve McLaughlin announced.
The county will be providing 1,000 coats to kids facing economic challenges across the county, McLaughlin said.
“This is the 20th anniversary of the founding of Coats for Kids and we are proud to be in a position where we can provide a record number of coats to keep our kids warm,” said McLaughlin.
Distribution of coats is set to begin in November, and is done at youth centers and community and non-profit organizations providing support to children and families.
The golf tournament on September 15 at the Troy Country Club brought in the highest return for the event since it was started in 2001. The number of sponsors also increased from previous events.
“We are very proud to have not only kept this important event running, but to also see the event grow and be in a position to help more children and families,” said McLaughlin.
The county distributed 900 coats to kids in 2020, and the number of coats distributed has steadily increased over the years. The coats are provided with the assistance of B. Lodge & Co. clothing store from Albany.
“We had a terrific time in joining with the community to support the County Executive’s “Coats for Kids” golf tournament. It was amazing to see the local business community join with residents to raise money for a great cause”, said Legislator Scott Bendett- Averill Park.
“It was nice to play golf for such a good cause, especially since Scott Bendett and I were paired with two great golfers from Regeneron. It was a record turnout of golfers, and all for a very worthy cause”, said Legislator Bob Loveridge- East Schodack.
