Phinney Design Group Wins AIAENY Honor Award

Phinney Design Group, a multi-disciplinary Architecture, Interior Design and Construction Management firm located in Saratoga Springs, was given with The American Institute of Architects Eastern New York (AIAENY) Honor Award, presented by Patrick Quinn, on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at The Arts Center in Troy. Phinney Design Group was recognized for their design work on several studios for resident artists at Yaddo, an artistic retreat located on a 400-acre estate in Saratoga Springs, New York. Founded in 1900 by Spencer and Katrina Trask, Yaddo offers residencies to professional creative artist from all nations and backgrounds working in a variety of disciplines. These residencies last from two weeks to two months, and include room, board, and a studio.

Phinney Design Group designed and provided construction management services on five new live-work studios that are available for year round use. These are Yaddo’s first ever live-work studio for choreographers and performance artists, and establish thoughtful goals to increase capacity, artistic diversity and operational efficiency. These new live-work studios are an exhilarating and highly visible way of communicating Yaddo’s dedication to providing the highest quality environment for creative work. Additional design team consultants who contributed to the design and construction of the live-work studios include the LA Group, SB Engineering, and HA2F Consultants in Engineering.

“The five new live-work studios have been an outstanding success, signaling that Yaddo is moving boldly into a vibrant second century of providing support and an excellent working condition to the world’s leading writers and artists. The studios have received raves from the artists who have been in residence and have allowed us to move our facilities away from the noise of the Northway, while brilliantly opening-up hitherto unused portions of the estate. These new studios have proven to be an exhilarating and aesthetically compelling way of communicating Yaddo’s commitment to providing the highest quality environment for creative work. All of us at Yaddo, and the hundreds of artists we serve, send our congratulations and warmest thanks to Phinney Design Group on this latest honor,” said Elaina Richardson, President of Yaddo, upon learning of the AIAENY Honor Award..
