Owl Announces Sunset Each Evening In Hoosick Falls
The Hoosick Local Development Corporation (HLDC) has installed a carved great horned owl on the front peak of the Village Municipal Building. The owl “comes to life” each evening at sunset by broadcasting a series of authentic hoots and shrieks which were provided as a courtesy by the Macaulay Library at the Laboratory of Ornithology Cornell University. The owl is the creation of Tree Craft in Brunswick, owned by Peter and Diane Clemente and the owl's calls were programmed by volunteer Bill St Clair. The HLDC, whose mission is to promote businesses in the community, undertook the project in order to add local color and spark interest in Hoosick Falls. HLDC volunteers installed the owl, speakers, small computer and timer to create the attraction.
