New Prepare Rensselaer Mobile App Will Help Rensselaer County Handle Emergencies
A new mobile app to aid in emergency alerting and preparedness is being made available by Rensselaer County and the county Bureau of Public Safety, County Executive Steve McLaughlin announced.
The new Prepare Rensselaer mobile app can be used on iPhone and Android devices and is available for download free of charge from the iPhone and Google Play (Android) app stores.
“The new Prepare Rensselaer mobile app is a great way to use technology to keep residents safe and informed in the event of an emergency,” said McLaughlin.
“Residents, businesses and visitors to our county can be ready and prepared in the event of an emergency thanks to Prepare Rensselaer. This new app will get information out to the public in a faster, convenient format and will be a great resource to emergency services in our county,” added BPS Director Jay Wilson.
Emergency alerts (push notifications) are one of the most important aspects of the new Prepare Rensselaer smartphone app. You can also see and share the latest Bureau of Public Safety news from Facebook and Twitter.
The app displays local weather, 7-day weather forecast, and radar, and help in formulating a personalized Emergency Plan.
The Emergency Plan is a feature that will help you to create your own personal and family plan. This includes four sections: “My Info” is a shareable list to keep important family, medical, and insurance contacts at your fingertips; “Checklist” helps you determine what supplies you will need for an emergency; the “Preparedness” section is where you will find information on preparing for various kinds of emergencies. Lastly, under “During a Disaster” you will find the I’m Okay contact form, “Where am I” – a personal locator, a Damage Report form, and Tips to Stay Safe during emergencies.
Also included are a calendar of upcoming events, 511 NY Traffic Information, Power Outages, and a map with shelters and other important locations. In case of an emergency, you can easily get directions to the nearest Shelters.
Persons eligible for Fire and EMS Training can easily access the training calendar and sign up for training.
“Planning a response in the event of an emergency, along with getting information about weather, an accident or emergency, can make all the difference. We anticipate this will be a great and widely used resource throughout our county,” said McLaughlin.
“Please take a moment to download the app and set up your own personal Emergency Plan. We encourage you to share this app with your family, friends, and neighbors to help them prepare before the next emergency,” said Wilson.
Search for Prepare Rensselaer in the Apple and Android (Google Play) app stores and download the mobile app onto your smartphone or tablet. It is available free of charge.
