Mohawk Hudson Humane Society Announces Fall Community Education Series, Dog Training, and Yoga with Cats
The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (MHHS) has announced its new Community Education Series and fall program lineup. The Humane Society opened its new Animal Care Center earlier this year. It is located at 3 Oakland Avenue in Menands.
The Community Education Series is offered to the public free of charge, however registration is required. Register online at mohawkhumane.org, or call 518-434-8128, ext. 207 to reserve seats.
Wednesday, November 15, 7:00-8:30 pm - Dog Care 101
presented by Dr. Tara Estra
Session will be valuable to new and experienced dog owners alike. Learn the facts about vaccines, the importance of a good diet, tips on care and grooming and behavioral enrichment for dogs.
Thursday, November 16, 6:30-7:30 pm - Does My Dog Need Training?
presented by Nancy Haynes, MHHS Director of Animal Behavior & Enrichment
Program will address questions related to dog training and behavior.
Wednesday, December 6, 6:30-8:00 pm - Taking Action for Animals: Animal Legislation & Advocacy
presented by Libby Post, Executive Director, Animal Protection Federation
Participants will learn about current legislative efforts and how to become an advocate for animals.
Thursday, December 7, 6:30-8:00 pm - Living with Wildlife
presented by Elena Rizzo, Founder & President of Into the Wild, Inc.
Attendees will learn how to prevent common issues with wildlife and how to use cost-effective, humane solutions in the event of conflict. The presentation will also cover how and when to intervene to help injured and orphaned wildlife.
Thursday, December 14, 6:30-7:30 pm – What to expect when you’re expecting … a new pet!
presented by Nancy Haynes, MHHS Director of Animal Behavior & Enrichment
This session is perfect for the first-time pet owner and will address considerations for anyone looking to adopt a new animal companion.
Thursday, December 21, 7:00-8:30 pm - Cat Care 101
presented by Tara Estra, DVM
Helpful for both new and experienced cat parents, this program will cover vaccinations, nutrition, grooming, play, enrichment and more.
Dog Obedience Training
The Humane Society offers six-week, hour-long Basic Dog Obedience Training Classes geared toward building skills in a small class setting using positive reinforcement. The next session begins on Monday, November 13 at 5:30 pm. It is taught by Nancy Haynes, MHHS Director of Animal Behavior & Enrichment. The cost is $150 or $125 for dogs adopted from MHHS. Meowmaste Yoga with Cats
As participants move through poses, stretch and relax, they will be visited by friendly felines anxious to share their mat space. Classes are led by certified yoga instructors and suitable for participants of all levels who have basic yoga experience. Classes are $15. Reservations and prepayment are required.
