Mayor Madden Encouraging Public to Participate in Monument Square Design Workshops

City of Troy Mayor Patrick Madden announced the schedule for the City’s design workshop series associated with the redevelopment of the One Monument Square site. The multi-day event will commence on the evening of Monday, June 18, and will continue for the next three days through Thursday, June 21.

Mayor Madden said “The City of Troy is embarking on a new effort, driven by public input, to develop a shared vision and agreement for the redevelopment of One Monument Square. This process is a fresh start with no preconceived notions that gives every resident and property owner an opportunity to participate in the process and a place at the table. We encourage everyone to get involved and add their voice to this exciting discussion about the future of our community.”

Place Alliance, New York and River Street Planning & Development were selected by the City of Troy as the urban designers and planners to lead the process. The agenda for the evening of Monday, June 18, will include a presentation about previous uses of the site, dialogue about the public’s vision for use and design, review of past proposals, and introduction of a range of new concepts. During the process, these concepts will be evaluated and designed in real-time and, working with the public, a preferred concept will be developed. The approach is interactive and inclusive and offers the public an opportunity to attend some, or all of the design sessions, focus groups, open houses and presentations to develop a consensus for moving forward with this site’s reuse. Specific times and locations for these sessions will follow in the coming weeks.

More details about the workshop schedule will be made available on the City’s website – www.troyny.gov
