Literacy 5K Run/Walk

Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County's is excited to announce that its16th annual Literacy 5K Run/Walk will take place on Sunday May 7, 2017 at Schodack Island State Park (about 15 minutes south of Rensselaer on Rte. 9J). We are not only excited about the new location but its new activities for participants. The 5K course  will take runners/walkers over fairly level, wide, hard packed dirt trails in the Park.

In addition to the 5K and Youth Mile we will be offering a Naturalist Guided Nature Walk (1.5 mi.) that is great for all ages and abilities and a Story Walk led by the Castleton Public Library Staff that is geared for children under 8 yrs. The Schodack Landing Fire Dept. is partnering with us and are hosting a Chicken BBQ from 11-1 p.m. at the park.

All participants, families, friends and volunteers will have the opportunity to remain in the park after the Literacy Run and enjoy the many amenities it offers including the picnic areas, 8 miles of trails, biking, volleyball, horseshoes, playground, benches on the Hudson River Shoreline to relax, and a kayak/canoe launch site.

Of special note the state park's entrance fee ($6 per car) will be included for all registered participants and anyone with Empire Passports.

You can find more information about the events, the Run/Walk courses and to register just go to  www.lvorc.org or https://www.zippyreg.com/online_reg/registration.php?eventID=834 or you will find a paper copy attached.

Please encourage and invite your families, children, grandchildren, neighbors,  and friends. co-workers  to participate and/or consider putting together a team for the 5K. Tutors and students might want to consider doing the Nature Walk or 5K together.

The needed funds raised from the Literacy Run will directly support our programs and services offered to adults seeking tutoring and instruction to learn to read, write and/or speak English as well as to help those preparing for citizenship, English Language Civics and the many other programs Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County offers.

Do consider joining us on May 7th at Schodack Island State Park for a great day of fun and support.
