The Junior League of Troy Celebrates 90 Years!
The Junior League of Troy is celebrating its 90th year of service to Troy and the surrounding community. Founded by thirty pioneering women in 1929, the Junior League of Troy has focused on social issues and improving the lives of women and children by laying the foundation for real and lasting change. A celebratory gala will be held at the Country Club of Troy on June 8th at 6pm to commemorate the occasion, with drinks, dinner and dancing! The League will recognize community partners throughout the decades, celebrate the projects the league has completed, and reflect on the social awareness and impact made in areas such as literacy, poverty, homelessness, substance abuse, and domestic violence, all while providing women with valuable training and leadership experiences in an empowering environment. Notable projects include establishing and financially supporting the Children’s Museum of Science and Technology (CMOST) (formerly the Junior Museum, founded 65 years ago in 1954); establishing the Volunteer Bureau; and establishing and financially supporting the Community Hospice, as well as recent projects such as the Prego Expo and Backpacks over Break. The Junior League of Troy has received National Award recognition from USA Weekend, and been a recipient of both the Troy Record's Make a Difference Day award and Key Bank's President's Award for Voluntarism (Eastern Region).
