Fence 2018, Award Night and Artist Reception, May 25th, 6pm, Troy Night Out!
The Arts Center of the Capital Region recently opened its annual Fence Show, the single largest exhibition of local artists in the region, on May 18, 2018. Artists, regardless of age and skill level, are welcome to submit up to two works for the exhibition. There is also a separate K-12 student category for young artists. The Fence Show is generously sponsored by Architecture +.
The Fence Show will remain on view through July 16. A reception and awards ceremony will be held on Friday, May 25, from 5-9pm as part of Troy Night Out. The awards ceremony will start at 6pm.
ABOUT THE FENCE SHOW
Now in its 53rd year, the Fence Show got its name when members’ artwork was exhibited on the iron fence surrounding Washington Park in Troy, the original location of the Arts Center. This year we accepted over 400 pieces, including paintings, drawings, photography, fiber arts, stained glass, and sculpture. The artwork is displayed salon style (floor-to-ceiling) in our Main and Wallace & Foyer galleries, and all levels of skill and ability are represented, from novice to professional. We invite you to be part of our tradition by becoming a member.
Membership to the Arts Center is required for entry into the Fence Show. Anyone can become a member or renew their membership at any time. To become a member, visit our website www.artscenteronline.org or call us at 518-273-0552. Member pricing is $55 for individuals; $35 for students, and seniors; and $75 per household.
This year’s awards ceremony will take place on May 25 at 6 pm during Troy Night Out. During the awards ceremony, $3000 in cash awards, including Best in Show, will be announced. The Best in Show recipient will receive $600 and a solo exhibition at the Arts Center in the Wallace & Foyer Gallery in 2019. The awards support artists of all levels of experience and are made possible through the generous support of Karen & Chet Opalka and the Marcelle Foundation.
Each year, we invite a juror to choose artwork for the Fence Select, an exhibition curated from the works in the Fence Show. This year, the Fence Select exhibition was juried by David Gersten. He and two of his colleagues identified approximately 50 pieces of art that will later become the Fence Select and remain on display through August 31, 2018.
