Chazen Turns Attention to Client, Employee Safety

The Chazen Companies, a multidisciplinary consulting firm, hires Jeffrey Malo, CUSP as Manager of Health and Safety Services within Chazen’s Building Code and Life Safety Services group.

Malo will lead Chazen’s commitment to promoting a culture of health and safety for Chazen’s clients, employees, and the public across New York State and the northeast region. Malo and Chazen offer project owners, construction companies (general contractors, subcontractors), engineering firms and the manufacturing industry safety services such as: developing and evaluating existing health and safety programs/plans, on-site safety audits/inspections, as well as serving as an Owner’s Safety Representative (safety staffing). They also develop and conduct company-specific safety training courses which include HAZWOPER, OSHA “Outreach” Construction and General Industry, Electrical, NFPA 70E, CPR/AED/FA and more.

A Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) with an early background in Fire Protection Technology and a resident of the Capital Region, Malo brings over 20 years of experience in managing, coordinating and facilitating health and safety training and field services for a variety of clients including SABIC Innovative Plastics, Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY), General Electric, Fluor Marine Propulsion, and major utility and renewable energy providers in the region. He served as Program Director for the Northeastern New York Safety & Health Council (an affiliate of the National Safety Council) and most recently served as an Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist at a regional engineering firm. Malo himself carries multiple certifications and completed trainings including National Safety Council Master Instructor, New York State Hazardous Materials Technician, Excavation, Authorized Electrical Safety Training, among many others.

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the top 10 most recently cited standards violated in the fiscal year 2020 included fall protection in construction, hazard communication, respiratory protection, and scaffolding (OSHA. 2021. Chazen recently joined LaBella Associates, DPC, a multidisciplinary architectural and engineering firm with upward of 1,100 employees. Malo and Chazen’s Health and Safety Services are available to existing clients of Chazen and LaBella, as well as any businesses interested in improving their health and safety practices.
