CDPHP Expands to North Country

Capital District Physicians’ Health Plan, Inc. (CDPHP®) announced plans to bring its award-winning health care coverage to residents of the North Country. The Albany-based health plan – recognized nationally for its commitment to quality and superior customer service – has announced plans to expand its services area across all lines of business into Clinton, Franklin, Essex, and Warren Counties.

“This is a game-changer for the North Country,” said CDPHP president and CEO, Dr. John D. Bennett. “For more than 30 years, CDPHP has been known as the Capital Region’s leading health plan. Today, we are proud to announce that we are packing our bags and bringing The CDPHP Difference to residents in Northern New York.”

CDPHP members enjoy access to an expansive national network,* which includes more than 825,000 doctors, specialists and nurses across the country, providing access to superior health care coverage virtually anywhere in the United States.

“Access to quality health care is the foundation to a healthier community. We welcome CDPHP to the North Country and are pleased our patients will have another option for their health care coverage,” said Dr. Wouter Rietsema, Vice President, Chief Quality and Information Officer, CVPH.

CDPHP understands that access to health care services is challenging for rural communities. That is why we are proud to partner with the nation’s top-rated telemedicine app to offer members access to live, video-based doctor appointments, 24/7. These board-certified physicians treat a wide variety of common medical issues, including coughs, fevers, migraines, pink eye, rashes, sprains, and more.

"I commend Capital District Physicians' Health Plan for offering access to affordable, high quality services in our district," said Congresswoman Stefanik. "We must continue to work to ensure families across our district have access to the healthcare services they need, and this expansion means more choice for consumers in the North Country.”

CDPHP members also enjoy access to free preventive care services**, including checkups, immunizations, cancer screenings in more. We work closely with our physician network to ensure members receive these valuable services, as studies have shown up to 40 percent of illness can be avoided through preventive care.

"The rural nature of our communities creates some unique challenges, including access to health care, but our needs are no different than anyplace else," said Senator Betty Little. "Having CDPHP in the North Country region will help strengthen our health care system. This is very important for patients, but also it's a beneficial development for our health care professionals and institutions that will have the chance to create a new partnership and offer a greater diversity of choices."

“Access to affordable, quality health care can be a challenge in many rural communities,” said Assemblyman Billy Jones. “CDPHP is an innovative, highly-acclaimed insurer whose North Country expansion will create new choices for employers and families. Their entrance into our area will strengthen our health care system.”

For the second year in a row, CDPHP has ranked “Highest in Member Satisfaction among Commercial Health Plans in New York” in the J.D. Power 2018 Member Health Plan Study. The study measures member satisfaction among 163 health plans in 22 regions across the country.

“I welcome CDPHP to Greater Plattsburgh Region. A healthy community helps to create a thriving community,” said Michael S. Cashman, Plattsburgh Town Supervisor. “Expanding options in rural health care is critical to serving the needs of our North Country residents and businesses. I am looking forward to seeing them integrate into the market while providing new opportunities to reduce costs. All four counties are sure to benefit from this expansion.”

CDPHP understands there is no one-size-fits-all approach to health care, which is why we work closely with small and large businesses alike to create customized benefits to fit the needs of every workforce. The health plan will utilize its value-based payment model for doctors and other providers to bring better, more comprehensive health care to residents of the North Country.

"Added choice and competition is welcome in our health insurance market and will be welcomed by our employers who need options and alternatives to provide quality coverage to their employees at the best possible cost," said Garry Douglas, President of the North Country Chamber of Commerce. "Having a proven, quality carrier such as CDPHP join our North Country marketplace is good for everyone. We thank them for joining our future, and we look forward to working with them and offering access to their plans through our Chamber's health insurance program."
