Capital Region Artist Initiative Call for Artists

TROY (02/28/2022)— The Capital Region Artist Initiative, The Art Center of the Capital Region’s investment in our regional artists is in its fourth year. Created in partnership with the New York State Council on the Arts, Visual Arts Program, this program recognizes the need for additional resources for artists to develop professionally and advance their careers. The Arts Center recognizes that the power of our impact is fueled by our artists. The Capital Region has a strong and vibrant creative community, from folk artists to circus performers to activists. Our goal is to strengthen this community through training and resource sharing.

Comprising the Artist Training Certificate and Critical Forum, the Capital Region Artist Initiative is free of charge.

The Artist Training Certificate (ATC) is a comprehensive business training program for artists who want to get a better sense of their artistic intent, presentation of self, and business goals. ATC consists of four modules of training and workshops with a focus on artist development, marketing, web development, finance, business planning, and teaching. Twelve artists will be selected for this program.

Critical Forum is an immersive professional development opportunity for emerging and mid-career artists. Twelve artists will join in a critical and professional conversation with their peers and art administrators. They will experience open dialogue with New York City curators, gallery owners, and artists. This program is based on travel. If you are

uncomfortable with travel at this time, please wait until next year to apply.

Both programs end with an alumni networking experience inclusive of all artists who have participated in the program.

Applications for Critical Forum are due on March 11, 2022. Applications for the Artist Training Certificate program will be available February 28, 2022, and due April 1, 2022.
