Arts Center Announces Call for Art for Annual Fence Show Exhibition Opens September 23, 2021
TROY (08/05/2021)—The Arts Center of the Capital Region will host its annual members’ Fence Show beginning September 23, 2021. The Fence Show is an annual celebration that pays homage to a time when members’ artwork was exhibited on the iron fence surrounding Washington Park in Troy, the original location of the Arts Center. The theme of this year’s Fence Show is “Art is Essential.”
Anyone with an active membership to the Arts Center may submit artwork to the show. Memberships must be valid through December 10, 2021. New and renewed memberships must be postmarked or received by September 3, 2021. All levels of skill and ability are represented, from novice to professional, as well as an array of media including but not limited to paintings, drawings, photography, fiber arts, stained glass, and sculpture; non-traditional media and electronic arts are welcome. All artwork must be for sale.
The Fence Show comprises two exhibitions: Fence Salon and Fence Select. Fence Salon (Sep. 23 – Oct. 30) displays member artwork floor-to-ceiling, showcasing as much work as will fit in our Main Gallery. From this collection, 50-75 pieces will be chosen by a juror to remain on display for Fence Select (Nov. 19 – Dec. 11). This year’s juror is Dan Cameron, a New York-based curator, writer, and educator. Cameron was born in Utica, NY and holds a BA in philosophy from Bennington College.
ACCR will host an artist reception and awards ceremony on October 14 at 6PM. Cash prizes will be awarded for Best in Show and Runner Up; the winner of Best in Show will also receive an individual exhibition at the Arts Center. A second reception for Fence Select will take place December 2 at 6PM.
New to this year’s exhibition, ACCR invites Fence Student work to our Foyer Gallery in November & December during the Fence Select exhibition. K-12 students are welcome to enter the show either as part of their school or as individuals with a valid student membership. Schools are permitted to enter up to five student works for an entry fee of $50 per school.
Fence 2021 is sponsored by E. Stewart Jones Hacker Murphy LLP. All exhibitions are free and open to the public.
