A senior living community in Latham has completed a $13.5 million building that adds 35 apartments.
Residents will begin moving into the new Parkland building at Shaker Pointe at Carondelet within the next few weeks. About half of the new units are reserved.
Parkland at Shaker Pointe is the only rental option at the community. The other units on the campus require an entrance fee that starts around $127,500.
Rents at the new building — considered monthly service fees because of the access to amenities they include — range from $1,990 a month to $2,790 a month.
There are about 220 residents at the Shaker Pointe community, representing about 99% occupancy. People must be aged 55 and over to be eligible to become residents.
Shaker Pointe is the fifth-largest independent senior housing community in the region by number of residents, according to the Business Review List. The property has 162 units, not including the new building. It is a nonprofit that was started by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.
