Questar III’s Sarah Morrison Named New York ASBO’s Advocate of the Year

Sarah Morrison, senior state aid planner at Questar III BOCES was named Advocate of the Year by the New York State Association of School Business Officials (NYSASBO). The award is presented to an individual, organization or company that has demonstrated a deep and lasting commitment to advocating on behalf of public schools and an understanding or appreciation of school fiscal issues. In 2018, she received the George A. Perry Volunteer Service Award, presented to a member of ASBO who demonstrated outstanding volunteer service and commitment to the association and its chapters.

Morrison joined Questar III BOCES in February 2017 after serving as the business administrator of North Colonie Central School District since 2002 and as audit manager at Marvin & Company, CPAs from 1987-2002. In her role with State Aid Planning, Morrison works on a team supporting more than 650 school districts and BOCES across New York state. She has developed a template that approximately half the districts in the state used to gather their expenditures for the 2018-2019 school year that had to be reported by building for the first time under the new Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requirements.

She is also the chair of the Financial Management, Accounting and Auditing Committee that oversees statewide training of school business officials, treasurers and external auditors for NYSASBO. She develops and updates the three two-hour training classes – Accounting 1, 2 and 3 – and presents the courses each year at ASBO headquarters in Colonie.
