Automotive Mechanic Helper
The City of Troy is seeking applications for the position of: Automotive Mechanic Helper The pay grade and salary range for this position is: CSEA Grade 6, Starting Salary $34,797
General Statement Of Duties: Assists in the routine work involved in the service and maintenance of automotive equipment; does related work as required. Distinguishing Features Of The Class: This is the beginning level of automotive repair and maintenance work. The duties do not include repair jobs involving skilled work except in the capacity of mechanic helper. Duties of a less complex nature are performed independently. Examples Of Work: (Illustrative Only) Checks tires, repairs flats, mounts, balances and patches tires of all types; Changes oil and lubricates automotive equipment; Assists with the assembly of shop equipment and tools; Performs basic unskilled repairs to vehicles and equipment as directed; Assists with maintenance of small engine equipment, mowers, trimmers, chainsaws; Assists with performing preventative maintenance service on equipment and vehicles; Assists in the repairing and overhauling of brake systems, differentials, transmissions and front and rear axles; Assists with maintaining parts inventory; Retrieves parts as directed; Cleans and details vehicles and equipment; Cleans, paints, and maintains shop equipment and facilities; Performs a variety of related tasks.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities: Some knowledge of standard automotive repair methods and of the tools and terminology of the trade; willingness to perform mechanical work; ability to properly use hand and power tools, grease guns, pressure washer, drills, and grinders; ability to understand an carry out oral directions; good motor and hand and eye coordination; mechanical aptitude; good physical condition.
