City of Troy, Downtown Troy BID, Brown’s Brewing Company, Tri-City Valley Cats and More Announce 2017 Summer Special Events Schedule
The arrival of the summer season is nearly upon us, and Troy continues to be the premiere destination for entertainment, music and family fun in 2017. Nearly 40 live music concerts, festivals and special events have been scheduled for the months of June, July, August, and September across the Collar City. On Thursday, May 25, Mayor Patrick Madden, the Troy Downtown Business Improvement District, Brown’s Brewing Company, WEQX 102.7-FM, the Enchanted City Festival, the Tri-City ValleyCats and other representatives will co-host a press conference to announce details of Troy’s 2017 summer events and concert season.
“This season’s wide-ranging lineup of entertainment and events in Troy has something for everyone across the Capital Region to enjoy,” said Mayor Patrick Madden. “With an expanded concert calendar featuring great local music, signature food and craft beer festivals, and special events the Collar City remains the place to be for families, residents and visitors to enjoy Troy throughout the summer season.”
“We are looking forward to yet another full season of free, family friendly programming,” said Katie Hammon, Executive Director of the Downtown Troy Business Improvement District. “Downtown Troy has a wide array of shops, restaurants, and places to explore, and we are excited to continue welcoming new and seasoned guests to Troy’s historic, walkable downtown through widely-attended events including Rockin’ on the River, River Fest, Troy Pig Out, Chowderfest, Troy Night Out, Restaurant & Craft Beer Week, Fitness in the Park, and more!”
"We look at this craft beer and live music concert series as an opportunity to not only showcase our remarkable liquid but to put our culture on display for everyone to experience,” Garry Brown, owner of Brown's Brewing. “Craft beer and music make for an awesome partnership and we're very excited to invite everyone down to our place in Troy this summer."
“At EQX, we love promoting live music, and the joy it brings to so many people,” said Jason Keller, Afternoon Drive Host on 102.7 WEQX. “Downtown Troy is such a beautiful spot, and our conversation with Browns came along at just the right time. The performers we have lined up will only add to the vibrate music scene in the Capital Region.”
"The Tri-City ValleyCats are honored to be hosting this year's New York-Penn League All-Star Game and surrounding festivities. This event will feature some of the brightest young stars in Minor League Baseball while also showcasing the city of Troy and Capital Region as an exciting destination for fans throughout our league,” Matt Callahan, General Manager of the Tri-City ValleyCats. “This is an opportunity for us to add to the great summer lineup Troy has in store for local residents and those traveling to enjoy these events."
“The Troy Flag Day Committee is excited to present the 50th Annual Troy Flag Day parade on Sunday June 11 as part of Troy’s vibrant summer season,” said Jerry Weaver, Flag Day Parade Committee President. “This year’s parade is named in honor of longtime Chairman and committee-man Joseph Killeen who passed away after last year’s parade. The committee is working extra hard with the amazing support and assistance from Franklin Hospitality to bring one of the best parade experiences ever viewed in the upstate region. Planning and development of the parade is ongoing, the committee urges local businesses, social groups, sports teams, and youth groups to put together a contingent of marchers to compliment the many musical groups interspersed throughout the lineup.”
"As a developmental coach and true fan of Olympic wrestling we wanted to create a festival that encouraged wrestler’s participation,” said Joe Uccellini, head coach of Curby-3 Style Wrestling Club and co-founder of Headlocks on the Hudson Troy. “Riverfront Park gives us that atmosphere and the supporting local Troy businesses make it that much better. Last year, our first year, received great reviews and we look forward to growing it even more to near 300 wrestlers this year.”
“Steampunk owes a lot of its aesthetic to ‘The Time Machine,’” said The Enchanted City festival organizer Sue Dunckel, noting the Victorian era scenes from the 2002 Hollywood movie were filmed in the Collar City. “The Enchanted City is a real life fairy tale that you can experience and even become a character in if you wish. It’s a steampunk Brigadoon that we are thrilled to present in Troy each summer!”
"The Troy Waterfront Farmers Market community supports over 100 local farms and businesses, and sustains nearly 5,000 acres of farmland by shopping with us every Saturday," says Liz Hammond, Troy Waterfront Farmers Market Manager. "We are so excited to be celebrating this support, local foods, and everything handmade each week on River Street this summer."
"The Flea is a collective market filled with vintage and handmade goodies, food and music located in the heart of downtown Troy,” said Kristin Jackson, Director of the Troy Flea Market. “We have exciting new vendors and cannot wait for the start of the third year of Troy Flea. There are so many wonderful businesses open downtown on Sundays and we are thrilled to be a part of another exciting summer season in Troy.”
"Most people only ever see the facades of our brownstones from the streets," said Peter Grimm, President of the Friends of Prospect Park, the volunteer group that organizes the Hidden Garden Tour. "This is a special kind of event that invites visitors into the hidden, green spaces of our city. It really showcases the humanity and livability of Troy."
