Rensselaer Gateway communities are distinguished by affordable housing and many diverse architectural styles. Residential sites vary from cityscapes to countryside, and welcome new residents and growing families. Some homes date from Colonial times, including cozy farmhouses on winding rural roads as picturesque as postcards. In downtown Troy, you can find historic Victorian-era brownstones, popular throughout the Northeast in the 19th century. Commercial and industrial vacancy rates have decreased below the national averages, while construction activity has increased in recent years, making the outlook for commercial properties in the Rensselaer Gateway an optimistic one. The Gateway is within a hub of interstate highways, water transportation and rail centers, making commercial properties more viable. Emphasis in the region is on making properties "shovel-ready" for incoming businesses, particularly in the areas of high tech and industrial and in upgrading and renovating downtown spaces to accommodate today's companies.
