"Top 3" Chamber

Chamber Programs, Events & Marketing

"The Rensselaer County Regional Chamber of Commerce is really top notch in terms of communicating with its members and the business community. When Hudson River Ventures was looking for an organization that was providing great value to its members, the Chamber's website gave us an easy understanding that this was the right organization for us."
Mike Oates, Chief Executive Officer, Hudson River Ventures
“What a great opportunity that our administrative team could use the conference room space at the Chamber for our retreats this year. Everyone was very accommodating and friendly. It is a pleasure to get out of the district and be uninterrupted. We also took advantage of the new walkway along the river and enjoyed lunch at several local restaurants in downtown Troy. Thanks again!”
 – Bob Horan, Superintendent of Schools, Schodack Central School District
“Habitat for Humanity Capital District included an insert in the Chamber’s November Newsletter with a call for volunteers. The response was so great we have had hundreds of volunteers on our Burden Avenue construction site. Thank you Chamber staff for offering the opportunity to reach thousands of community members throughout the Capital Region. We look forward to another successful year at Habitat for Humanity.”
Christine Schudde, Director of Development, Habitat for Humanity Capital District
"The Chamber's newsletter inserts make things happen! The inserts have provided Literacy Volunteers with a vehicle to advertise our annual "Literacy Run" as we recruit runners, and recognize our sponsors. As we solicit our sponsors, we tell them they'll be listed in our Chamber newsletter insert which adds value to their sponsorship. We also have successfully used the insert to recruit volunteers and make more people aware of our programs."
Judy Smith, Executive Director, Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County
“As Principal of Santora & Sundack LLC, my partner and I approached the Chamber for a marketing plan to help rebrand our company’s newly established partnership. The marketing plan included banner ads in the Chamber’s bi-weekly e-newsletter. We had never used banner ads before and we were excited by the response! People started asking about the merger right away. When we asked where they had heard the news from, everyone said they heard through the chamber e-newsletters.”
John Santora, Principal, Santora Accounting & Bookkeeping Services, LLC
"I have found the Networking luncheons to most beneficial for us. We have met so many great people who have jumped on board to help our families in need. Each luncheon results in new faces coming through our door. It's a win-win format for everyone!”
— Phyllis Sandow, Executive Director, Hope 7 Community Center
"As a nonprofit serving children and families in our community, we are forever grateful for the opportunities that the Rensselaer County Regional Chamber has brought our way. They met with our team to brainstorm creative avenues for brand awareness and facilitated connections with community members. Thanks to their efforts, we were able to find families in Rensselaer County who are able to assist youth in care and businesses who want to partner with us in raising awareness.”
— Kelli Reilly, Rensselaer County Home Finder, Berkshire Farm Center & Services for Youth

The Leadership Institute

Michael_pauley “The Leadership Institute has been fantastic for me in that it has dispelled the myth that there is only “one type” of leader.  Hearing local high-profile executives share their successes, hard-learned lessons, and differing approaches has been invaluable.  I know of no other place where future leaders can get this level of access in such a supportive setting.”
Michael Pauley, Vice President of Communications & Marketing Strategy, Healthcare Association of NYS, Class of 2014
"The Leadership Institute was a life changing program. It inspired me to evaluate long term goals for my personal and professional life. Each speaker provided a fresh perspective on the key characteristics any leader needs to succeed at work, at home and within the greater community. The Institute has inspired me to take a hard look at where I am and the path I plan to pursue.  It is an honor and a pleasure to have been selected for the Leadership Institute."
Kathryn Bradley, Marketing Manager, New York State Boards Association, Class of 2014
"I'm impressed with the caliber of professionals in the Class of 2013. The relationships formed will improve our professional networks throughout the region. The monthly seminars provide excellent opportunities to learn about key leadership principles from top local executives. The Leadership Institute is a fantastic investment and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking to sharpen their skills, grow their network, and increase their contribution to their company and industry."
Patrick O'Donnell, Director of Sales, Noble Gas Solutions, Class of 2013

"The Leadership Institute was a life changing experience. I highly recommend it to those looking to expand their skill set in order to become a more effective and well rounded leader."
Aimee LaLiberte, Director of Development Operations & Research, Siena College, Class of 2008

"The Leadership Institute is an invaluable experience for those interested in gaining a better understanding of their role, as well as the role of others, as business leaders. The Institute provided me with a wide range of inter-related topics designed to refine my leadership skills; and the opportunity to network with influential leaders in the Capital Region representative of varying industries and backgrounds."
Lisa Austin, Chief Strategy Officer, Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York, Class of 2007
"Excellent! That is the one word I feel accurately summarizes the experience I've had as a member of the Leadership Institute's class of 2007. Having the opportunity to learn with the future leaders of the region was just one of the many benefits of being a member of this class. While each session has its own specific topic, the programs were perfectly interrelated. It was also a wonderful opportunity to hear real life experiences from top executives throughout the region, and refreshing to see how down to earth, honest, and personable each of them can be."
Dan Lortie, DALLE Accounting & Cash Management, Inc. , Class of 2007

"Top 3" Chamber

TOP3ChamberWEBnewIn 2006 the Rensselaer County Regional Chamber of Commerce was chosen as one of the Top 3 Chambers in the United States, an honor recognizing its excellence in financial performance, member programs, internal operations and the organizational mission.

The Chamber was named a finalist for the American Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) Award for Excellence for 2006-2007. The prestigious ranking by the ACCE is the highest achievement in the membership development profession and sets the standard among chambers of commerce and similar organizations across the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean.

"Being recognized among the top three chambers in the nation is an honor," said Chamber President Linda Hillman. "It is a tribute to the excellent work of the Board of Directors, staff and volunteers. Our focus has always been on providing the best programs and services to our membership."

In recognition of the ACCE honor, the Chamber hosted a celebration for all members at the Franklin Terrace Ballroom in Troy.

ACCE finalists are chosen in four categories, based on annual membership dues. The Chamber was a finalist in the category based on annual dues of $200,000 to $499,999, along with the Greater Bethesda-Chevy Chase (Maryland) Chamber of Commerce and the Rowan County (North Carolina) Chamber.

Our Chamber became one of 62 chambers (of the 1,246 ACCE members in its size category) in the nation to qualify to compete for the award when it scored above the national average in net gain in members, membership dollars and retention. The Chamber then became a finalist when its programs and operations were selected among the top in the nation by ACCE's panel of expert membership development professionals. The Greater Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chamber received the top award at the ACCE Annual Convention in Cleveland, Ohio and the Rensselaer County Regional Chamber of Commerce took home the second place honor.

As part of the application process, the Chamber detailed its growth in membership with a 16% increase since 2000, member dues with a 32% increase since 2000, and event attendance with a 25% increase since 2002. During the past five years, the Chamber's operating budget has also grown, increasing 64%. Member retention rates, which are at 87%, have grown five percent since 2000, exceeding the national average of 85%.

Established in 1914, the American Chamber of Commerce Executives is a national association serving individuals involved in the management of chambers of all sizes. The organization's mission is to enhance the professional effectiveness and personal well being of chamber executives.
